Began doctoral research in 2026. Current interests span sustainable infrastructure, smart cities, climate resilience and AI applications.
IDENTITY & PURPOSE
I bring together engineering, environmental infrastructure and cross-cultural leadership—with a long-term focus on sustainable development.
I am M Tanvir Parvez, also known as Matobbar Tanvir Parvez, Tanvir Parvez Matobbar and 温又年 (Wen Younian). I am a Bangladeshi doctoral scholar in Environmental Science and Engineering at Tsinghua University’s School of Environment, where I began doctoral study and research in 2026.
My Bengali name is তানভীর পারভেজ মাতব্বর. A documented spelling variant is তানভীর পারভেজ মাতুব্বার.
My interests sit at the intersection of sustainable infrastructure, smart cities, artificial intelligence and international cooperation. I want to understand how environmental systems can become more resilient, how digital tools can improve decisions, and how technical ideas can work within the financial and institutional realities of developing cities.
I bring an engineering foundation, management training and experience in international environmental-infrastructure analysis to those questions. My perspective has been shaped by studying and working in China while maintaining a close interest in the development priorities of Bangladesh and other emerging economies.
At SUS Environment, I worked on country analysis, opportunity screening, financial-analysis support and stakeholder coordination for international waste-to-energy and environmental-infrastructure development. Earlier internships at BMW China Services and SDLG exposed me to digital information systems, business coordination and industrial processes.
Leadership has been another part of this development. As President of Tsinghua’s Student Association of Belt and Road Initiative, I helped strengthen organisational responsibilities, member development and external engagement. As a co-founder of Tsinghua International Language and Cultural Exchange, I helped create a platform for Chinese and international students to learn from one another.
These experiences have shaped a practical principle: leadership should make people and systems more capable. I value clear responsibilities, sound judgement and cooperation that continues beyond a single event or an individual’s term.

ACADEMIC FOUNDATION
My academic pathway has progressively connected the technical, organisational and environmental dimensions of infrastructure. I earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and Automation at Jiangsu Normal University in 2023, followed by a Master of Engineering Management at Tsinghua University in 2025.
Undergraduate study developed my understanding of electrical systems, automation, control and computational methods. My master’s training expanded that foundation into strategy, operations, quantitative analysis, technology management and the financial and organisational questions that influence project delivery.
My doctoral work now brings these foundations into environmental science and engineering, with research interests in smart sustainable cities, urban environmental systems and climate-resilient infrastructure.

Department of Industrial Engineering · Degree awarded 19 June 2025

Thesis on smart-city initiatives and sharing-economy approaches to sustainability in Dhaka’s residential communities.
Electrical Engineering and Automation · Degree awarded 14 June 2023

Undergraduate research applied deep learning and computer vision to detecting defects in electrical insulators.
SCHOLARSHIPS & RECOGNITION
My scholarship record includes the UNESCO/People’s Republic of China Great Wall Co-Sponsored Fellowship for doctoral study, following national nomination from Bangladesh, and the Chinese Government Scholarship High-Level Postgraduate Programme for my Tsinghua master’s degree.
During my undergraduate studies, I received Jiangsu Normal University’s international-student academic merit scholarship in 2020, 2021 and 2022. In 2022, my team’s Meteor concept—an AI education platform for children with autism spectrum disorder—received the Most Investable Team recognition at the Tsinghua Global Summer School SDG Hackathon.
I see these opportunities as a responsibility to keep developing the knowledge, judgement and practical capability needed to contribute.
2026
Co-sponsored fellowship for doctoral study; selected through national nomination from Bangladesh.
2023–2025
High-Level Postgraduate Programme supporting the Tsinghua Master of Engineering Management.
2020 · 2021 · 2022
Three consecutive international-student academic merit awards during undergraduate study.
